18 December 2002

Congratulations to Bernard Eckey who flew 1000km (and probably a new Australian record) on Sunday, 15 December 2002. Well done Bernard!!

Congratulations also to Leigh Bunting who after years of restauration work flew his Grunau Baby II again on Saturday, 7 December 2002. You beauty!!!

After the successful Soaring Seminar series there will be a follow-on 'MacCready Theory Seminar' for the more advanced pilots on Friday 17 January 2003, 20:00. This and other important dates are now in the Events Calendar.

9 November 2002 We have two new instructors: Greg Wren and Ulrich Stauss. Congratulations to both on gaining their Level 1 ratings at the recent instructors course.

A few more dates have been added to the Events Calendar and a new 'Whisper' can be found in the Newsletter Archive.

20 October 2002 The Aviation Careers Information Day was a success even though the numbers were not overwhelming. The event even received coverage on ABC Radio which brought a few more visitors who'd never before heard about our Gliding Club.

The presentations were excellent and very informative. The speakers could not hide their enthusiasm for gliding which characterised and shaped the start of their careers. Those interested then had a chance to admire an Aussi Air twin engine Cessna Caravan II from inside and out and enjoy Air Experience Flights in one of our ASK 21 twin-seater gliders.

As always with a new entry here, the Events Calendar has also received another update.

15 October 2002 The announcement of our public Aviation Careers Information Day has been added to the Events Calendar.

The Flinders Ranges Camp was a great success this year with many notable if not unforgettable flights. The lucky ones were able to use the three types of lift - ridge, thermal and wave - all in the same flight. Altitudes of up to 10 000 ft were achieved and some of the results of a number of photo and video shoots will no doubt be enviously admired for a long time to come by those who weren't along. Hopefully we will be able to show off some of the shots in a photo album on this site soon.

21 September 2002 New entries have been added to the Events Calendar. The dates and details for some of our 50th anniversary celebration events are yet to be decided, only the general timeframe is indicated. Members' input and ideas would be appreciated. Please contact any one of the executive committee members.
31 August 2002 The second one of our soaring seminars was an even greater success than the first one. The weather played along and a number of extended soaring and coaching flights were possible after the morning session.
It was quite noticeable how much the standard has improved already and we should see an increasing number of soaring and cross-country flights from Balaklava this coming season.

A very sincere THANK YOU to Bernard Eckey in particular but also to everyone else who contributed to organising and running the events.

19 August 2002 Another Events Calendar update.

The new events calendar and the upcoming soaring seminars should be of particular interest.
Our
trial membership offer is aimed at attracting new members and represents good value for money for someone who would like to have a go to see whether gliding is the right thing for them.
