Rules Rule 1: Aircraft Categories and Teaming Teams are made up of 4 pilots, a pair flying the ASK21, one flying the Hornet and one flying the Mini-Nimbus as follows:
Teaming and aircraft category may be arranged amongst the pilots but the instructors panel may choose to arbitrate to maintain a reasonable performance balance between teams and pilots registered for one aircraft category. Rule 2: Competition Tasks The task is a "Pilot Optional Speed Task" with a task time of 1 hour. The flight is to be declared as BGC XC Comp task and entered into the flight sheet as such prior to take-off. Rule 3: Turnpoints The task starts and ends at the BGC airfield with a minimum of 1 turnpoint from the published BGC turnpoint list. The same turnpoint may be used more than once but at least 2 turnpoints must be rounded before revisiting a previously used turnpoint. The airfield may also be used as a turnpoint. Rule 4: Scoring The achieved speed for a competition flight is calculated as follows V = D / T. D represents the sum of the published distances between the pilot's declaration of rounded turnpoints after the flight (and entered into the flight sheet) and T represents the maximum of either the task time or the actual flight time recorded in the flight sheets. In the event of an outlanding there is obviously no result (D=0 -> V=0). Rule 5: Bonus Points Each competition flight with launch before 11:00am on a particular day attracts a 10% bonus, i.e. V = 1.1 * D / T. Rule 6: Verification The pilots word when declaring the turnpoints (after the flight) is sufficient. In cases of sufficiently proven dishonesty the instructor's panel may disqualify pilots from the competition. Rule 7: Entry Requirements and Conditions Each participating pilot must be cross-country rated and enters the competition at their own risk. The pilot is responsible for a retrieve crew and vehicle in the event of an outlanding. At the discretion of the instructors panel a non-cross country rated pilot may participate when paired with an instructor or coach in the twin-seater category. Rule 8: Entry Fee An entry fee of $15 will be deducted from each pilot's club account on registration. Rule 9: Competition Period The competition runs from 1 October to 31 March. Each pilot or pilot pair can enter any number of flights during this period. Rule 10: Winners Winner in each aircraft category is the pilot or pilot pair with the highest calculated speed of any one task at the end of the competition period. The winning team is the team with the highest calculated speed team average over each pilot's or pair's best speed. In case of a tie the flight with the furthest turnpoint from the airfield is the winner. For teams the average of the distances of the furthest turnpoint from the airfield of the tied tasks (with the 4 best speeds) is taken as the tie breaker. If still tied, the shortest (average of) actual task time(s) of the tied tasks determines the winner. If still tied, the earliest (average) start time of the tied tasks determines the winner. Rule 11: Prize Award Prizes to the winners will be awarded at the BGC annual dinner. |
